Over the last year, Redrow have been working in partnership with the Wildlife Trust to develop a new strategy for enhancing nature on their developments. They have released a document setting out the vision, approach and commitments to enhancing biodviersity on developments. This ties in with our strong ecological approach at Berewood; finding ways to connect people with nature and ensure it thrives for the long-term. It is wonderful to see house builders recognising the importance of biodiversity, and taking a pro-active approach to not only protecting but also enhancing the spaces they are developing. The importance of nitrate neutrality at Berewood
Berewood is in the process of being certified as nitrate neutral, overcoming a significant issue in the Solent region as multiple other projects have been put on hold due to their development containing compromising levels of nitrates in soils. Whilst nitrogen is naturally present in soil and water, this is usually in low quantities and won’t have an impact on habitats or humans. When soil is disturbed however through building works, excess nitrogen is released which enters the water and this can have a devastating impact on biodiversity and public health.
