Mayoral visit to Berewood

We were delighted to welcome both Cllr Patrick Cunningham, Mayor of Winchester, and Cllr Prad Bains, Mayor of Havant, to Berewood for a socially distanced site visit last month. On 28th September the Mayors visited both the Berewood and Wellington Park developments, which together form the Parish of Newlands. Newlands Parish Profile

Community team members from Winchester City Council, Havant Borough Council, Newlands Parish Council and Grainger Plc have come together to start work on a Community Plan for Berewood and Wellington Park developments. Both areas are covered by Newlands Parish Council, and as part of the process a Parish Profile has been created, containing a wide range of information about the area. Nature Reserve application submitted

An application to create a community nature reserve at Berewood has been submitted to Winchester City Council’s planning team. Part of the 250 acres of green space across the site, the nature reserve will run along the western edge of the development and include children’s play areas, a dog agility area, and many ecological improvements. The application also includes the southern allotments, one of two allotment sites on the development, which will be for resident use and managed by Newlands Parish Council. Eco-friendly projects invited to pitch for £2000 grant

Up to £2000 is on offer for eco-friendly projects that will help deliver Winchester City Council’s target of becoming a carbon neutral district by 2030, thanks to an innovative digital fundraising scheme.  The ‘Greener Future Fund’ Crowdfunding platform is for any voluntary or non-for-profit organisations to fundraise online from within their communities and networks in the Winchester district, but also from national funds with possible match-funding from the council. Redrow & Wildlife Trust launch biodiversity strategy

Over the last year, Redrow have been working in partnership with the Wildlife Trust to develop a new strategy for enhancing nature on their developments. They have released a document setting out the vision, approach and commitments to enhancing biodviersity on developments. This ties in with our strong ecological approach at Berewood; finding ways to connect people with nature and ensure it thrives for the long-term. The importance of nitrate neutrality at Berewood

Berewood is in the process of being certified as nitrate neutral, overcoming a significant issue in the Solent region as multiple other projects have been put on hold due to their development containing compromising levels of nitrates in soils. Whilst nitrogen is naturally present in soil and water, this is usually in low quantities and won’t have an impact on habitats or humans.
