New Protected Species Spotted

We are delighted that a pair of Little Ringed Plovers have been spotted making themselves at home along the newly landscaped River Wallington. Little Ringed Plover are very small brown and white birds with distinctive yellow rings around their eyes. Their breeding habitat is open gravel areas near freshwater, including gravel pits, river edges and reservoir margins, where they nest on the ground on stones. This protected species have not been seen on site before, so have been attracted by the improvements to the river.

Notice of Road Works: Houghton Avenue/Grainger Street 7th – 10th May

We are currently undertaking finishing works on several areas of the Berewood development. These works are to bring the roads and footpaths up to an adoptable standard for Hampshire County Council to then take over future maintenance. As part of these works our contractor, Blanchard Wells, will be undertaking repair works to the surface of the Houghton Avenue entrance roundabout and a section of Grainger Street. Common Toad Crossings

Every year in early Spring common toads migrate across the site from the woodlands where they live most of the year, to find ponds and drainage ditches where they can breed safely. As they are so keen to get down to business they take the most direct route possible, which just happens to be the main road across the front of the site. Mayoral visit to Berewood

We were delighted to welcome both Cllr Patrick Cunningham, Mayor of Winchester, and Cllr Prad Bains, Mayor of Havant, to Berewood for a socially distanced site visit last month. On 28th September the Mayors visited both the Berewood and Wellington Park developments, which together form the Parish of Newlands.
